Full Description: This course is designed to take a responder trained or certified to the Hazardous Materials Operations level and prepare them to take a more offensive role as part of a Hazardous Materials Team. Individuals who take this course will be trained to OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standards of 29 CFR 1910.120 and to NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Standard for Responders, 2022 Edition.

This course will introduce and expand on the training that responders have received in the realm of hazardous materials. topics that will be covered in this class are:

1. The foundation of the Hazmat Technician
2. How matter behaves
3. Chemistry
4. Understanding specific hazards of Hazmat
5. Detection, Monitoring, and Sampling
6. Size-Up, Predicting Behavior, and Estimating Outcomes
7. Container Assessment
8. Planning and Implementing Strategies and Tactics
9. Personal Protective Equipment
10. Decontamination
11. Rescue and Recovery
12. Product Control
13. Terminating the Incident

Training includes both online and in-person training.

Prerequisites: 18 years old
Completion of Hazardous Materials Operations training dated within one year
